USA. 1958. Cooke built a huge following as lead singer in the top gospel group, the Soul Stirrers. In 1957 he was persuaded to quit the Gospel field to commence recording popular songs. Sam achieved immediate pop success with records like ‘You Send Me’, ‘Only Sixteen’ and dozens of others.’ I Don’t Want To Cry’ / ‘That’s All I Need To Know’ were released in 1958 on Specialty in an attempt to follow up the success of ‘You Send Me’.
